ALMOND EYE AESTHETIC

Our eyes, which determine our expression, actually give information about our health. The fact that our eyes look beautiful and look healthier depends on some anatomical reasons. The position of the inner and outer parts of the eyelids has a large share here. The outer corner of the eyelid is higher than the inner corner and ends at a certain angle.
However, in some genetic conditions, the outer part of the eyelids is lower. It may be flush with the inner corner, or sometimes lower. In addition, the outer corner of the eyelids is at a certain angle and sharp. When this corner loosens due to anatomical reasons or with age, it takes on a rounded appearance and this is the harbinger of laxity in the eyelid.
In these cases, the person gains a more sad, tired expression. And this can cause problems at any age. “Almond eye aesthetics”, which we have heard frequently in recent years, is the treatment we apply in these cases. The operation, which we perform through a small incision under local anesthesia, takes about half an hour. The surgical plan should be prepared according to the looseness of the tissues to be done here and the tissues should be hung on the newly determined periosteum. This surgical treatment, which we perform by using only about 1 cm from the outer part of the eyelid, is terminated with 3-4 stitches in this area. When self-dissolving sutures are used, sutures should be removed on the 5th day for better healing of the tissues, although suture removal is not required.
The important thing in the "Almond Eye Aesthetic" surgery is to evaluate the condition of the existing tissues very well and to perform the operation with the appropriate techniques for the patient. In this regard, we undergo a detailed eye examination before the operation.

EYELID SURGERY

Eyelid surgery is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic surgeries in recent years. While eyelids that loosen with age are mostly the cause, sometimes problems arise due to genetic reasons at earlier ages. Treatment here is very important. Because mostly the reason is just a skin loosening, while some of them are fat herniation and deep muscle layer problems.
Differential diagnosis is very important for correct treatment. Diagnosis is usually made with a detailed eye examination. Visual examination, eye muscle function measurement, and slit-lamp examination are required for differential diagnosis. Eye health is our main goal in eye aesthetic interventions.
Oculoplastic Surgery is the eye diseases unit that deals with eyelid surgery. Oculoplastic surgery or ophthalmic plastic surgery is an ophthalmologist. Due to the low number of oculoplastic surgeons in our country, it is a little-known department. Performs eyelid surgeries and applications such as botox-filling-prp-mesotherapy around the eyes.
We can usually perform eyelid surgeries with local anesthesia. However, if our patient is very excited and has a panic attack, we can also do it with sedation and general anesthesia. There is no need to stay in the hospital after the surgery. In general, we can discharge our patients after half an hour of rest. The first 48 hours after surgery is important. In this process, thanks to the application of intense ice, our patients do not have pain, bruising and edema, or very little. Pain is not usually present after surgery. Now, since we do our operations with special devices without using instruments such as scalpel blades, it is more comfortable and more acceptable.
Stitches are removed 1 week after the operation. Our patients are always asked whether there is pain during the sewing phase. There is no pain when taking stitches. Since our sutures are aesthetic sutures, there is no obvious scar after the operation. Eyelids heal very well due to their structure and, of course, thanks to tissue-friendly surgeries. With the special creams we use for a while after the surgery, the scar is almost completely gone.
The surgery is a permanent procedure. Of course, aging and gravity is an ongoing process. However, our patients do not return to their preoperative state throughout their lives.
A healthy eye area reflects our health. The healthier the eye area, the younger and more rested we look.

EYELID AESTHETIC

Our eyes are a whole with our eyelids, eyebrows and eyelashes. In order to see healthy, all these structures must be healthy and in harmony with each other.
A patient with droopy eyelids applies to us with one or more of the complaints of narrowing in the visual field, blurred vision, difficulty in opening his eyes in the evening, and heaviness in the eyelids.
A patient with droopy eyebrows may have similar complaints by causing droopy eyelids with the secondary effect of drooping eyebrows.
Again, as a result of the relaxation of the eyelids with the effect of age and gravity over time, the eyelids can turn in or out. The problem here is in the eyelid balance muscles, known as the eyelid retractor muscles. The eyelid turns inward, causing eyelashes to stick out, causing pain and blurred vision. In cases where the eyelid turns outward, the inner mucosa of the eyelid, which should be wet, dries up and hardens, causing problems.
All these diseases are in the field of Oculoplastic Surgery, that is, Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, which is a sub-unit within the Ophthalmology Specialization. The main purpose of us ophthalmologists, who deal with Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, is to treat the eyelid positions that should be while protecting eye and vision health, so that the patient feels both healthier and better.

IS THE EYELID SURGERY BENEFIT TO SEE?

Our eyelids are in the task of protecting the eye from all kinds of external factors in order to see healthy. However, sometimes the eyelids begin to droop more than they should, preventing vision. In general, with age, the eyelid skin begins to loosen and sag downwards with the effect of gravity. The eyelids, which loosen to the sides on the eyes, begin to narrow the visual field like a tent. In addition, they create resistance to the opening of the eye by putting pressure on the eyelashes. In this case, it begins to damage vision. Our patients generally have difficulty in opening their eyes in the evening and feel weakness in seeing. Of course, this situation becomes more evident in advanced ages and surgery becomes inevitable. In the lower lids, the loosening of the eyelids causes the lid that protects the eye to turn in or out and causes stinging and watering disorders in the eye. In advanced stages, it begins to cause permanent damage to vision by causing deterioration in the conjunctiva layer, which we call the eye membrane, which protects the eye.
As explained here, the eyelids provide protection for the eye, while unhealthy eyelids have a very negative effect on the eye and vision. Therefore, healthy eyelids must be present for healthy vision. "Eyelid surgery" is important in the treatment of eyelids, which is so effective on healthy vision. Eyelid surgery is a special field in Ophthalmology specialization training and is a surgical field performed by Ophthalmology specialists. This area is called oculoplasty in medical language. This department, called Oculoplastic or Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery, works in the fields of disease and aesthetics on and around the eyelids.

DOES droopy eye lids progress? WHAT IS THE DANGER?

It progresses according to the cause of droopy eyelids. When it comes to droopy eyelids, the first thing that comes to mind is loosening of the skin and superficial muscles due to age or genetic reasons. This situation progresses over the years with age and the effect of gravity. When treated, our patient can look 10-15 years younger and healthier.
In some cases, droopy eyelids occur in the deep muscle layer disorder. Because the cause is different, the treatment is also different. This disease is called ptosis.
Ptosis as a droopy eyelid can be basically due to 4 reasons.
They can be classified as congenital, aponeurotic, mechanical, and neurogenic.
Congenital droopy eyelids are present in childhood, do not usually change over time, and cause discomfort depending on the severity. In cases where it is very advanced, early treatment should be performed, especially if it blocks the visual axis of the eye. If treatment is delayed, it causes lazy eye.
Another condition that we consider as aponeurotic causes is a droopy valve that occurs in adults and progresses. The reason here is not a problem in the eye muscle itself, but the separation of the muscle from where it should be. It does not exist in childhood. In general, it can occur for many reasons, such as a past disease, an operation, continuous trauma to the eyelids, and the use of contact lenses.
More than 15 years ago, sutured cataract surgeries were an important reason for drooping eyelids, rather than laser cataract surgeries. Today, the abandonment of sutured surgeries has significantly reduced the rate of drooping valves.
Excessive rubbing of the eyes, itching, excessive trauma to the eyelid, use of contact lenses are among the causes of aponeurotic ptosis that can be seen at young ages.

DROPPED EYELID

Eyelid drooping is a condition that we encounter frequently and is very disturbing due to the fact that visuality is at the forefront today. In addition to the fact that our eyes are the most important area in mutual relations, clear vision has gained great importance in today's technology.
Eyelid drooping is one of the most treated conditions of recent times. However, the important thing here is what tissues the droopy eyelid covers and how it can be treated.
The condition, which is mostly seen as loosening and sagging in the skin and superficial muscles due to age, is evaluated as cosmetic and treatment is planned. However, the important thing here is to first determine what causes the droopy valve. Because the reason for this situation, which we consider as a simple drooping valve, may actually be due to the disorder in the deep muscle layer located at the bottom. If we do not add this to our treatment plan, the treatment will be wrong or incomplete.
Our eyes are one. Droopy eyelids may be accompanied by dry eyes. Eyelid drooping may be accompanied by weakness of the eye basic muscles. The droopy eyelid may actually be due to a disease at the neuromuscular junction, which we define as neurological.
First of all, the cause of drooping valve should be determined and the treatment should be done accordingly. It should be evaluated very well whether the droopy eyelid is blepharochalasis seen at a young age, dermatochalasis seen in advanced ages, or whether the cause is actually ptosis. Attempting treatment without making this distinction can have very dire consequences. Trying to treat it as blepharoplasty without realizing the presence of ptosis is to leave the eye vulnerable to many risks.

WHAT ARE EYELID DISEASES? HOW IS THE SOLUTION?

Our eyelids are much more important structures than is thought. The first and most important task of our eyelids is to protect our eyes. It wets the anterior surface of the eye with eye movements and allows the tears to spread over the entire surface. It provides protection with reflexes against sudden traumas to our eyes.
The top covers are usually animated. And it covers the eye cornea by 1/3. The lower lids are relatively immobile. The eye is at the border of the corneal limbus. And it acts as a pump in removing the tears from the eye.
When the eyelids cannot fulfill these duties for various reasons, disorders in the eye tissues begin to occur. These range from simple eye watering to eye loss.
When the eyelids cannot completely close the eye, the eye is seriously damaged. These conditions may occur after trauma to the eyelids, loosening of the tissues with age, facial paralysis or eyelid aesthetic surgery.
The first thing we consider in eyelid problems is how much the lower eye is affected by the event. And our treatment is planned according to eye vision function. Most eyelid diseases are infections. In general, chronic blepharitis is frequently encountered. Treatment of infections is usually long-term. Non-infectious eyelid problems can generally be resolved with eyelid-specific surgeries. The unit dealing with eyelid surgeries is the Oculoplasty unit, which is a sub-unit within the Ophthalmology Specialization.

WHAT IS OCULOPLASTY? WHAT IS BLEFAROPLASTY?

As in all areas of the skin, age-related changes are observed in the eyelids. These changes are in the form of bags under the eyes, excess skin and sagging of the upper lids, and wrinkles called "crow's feet" around the eyes. These aging changes are called “dermatochalasis”.
Bags around the eyes and excess skin sagging are removed with an eyelid aesthetic operation called “blepharoplasty”.
Blepharoplasty, that is, eyelid surgery operations, can be treated by the OCULOPLASTY unit, which is an eye diseases branch. The unit that performs this treatment is called Oculoplastic surgery, and the ophthalmologist who performs these operations is called Oculoplastic Surgeon.
An oculoplastic surgeon is a person who has received specialization training in ophthalmology and has sufficient knowledge of the eye, eyelids and surrounding muscle tissue, adipose tissue and skin. And it is the person primarily responsible for eyelid surgeries, whether aesthetic or due to disease.
Eyelid aesthetic operations; It is the most effective procedure known to remove the wrinkles on the eyelids as well as giving the person a young and lively look as a result of removing the excess fat, loosened and wrinkled skin from the upper and lower eyelids. Additional procedures are required to remove other wrinkles around the eyes or to raise the eyebrow. Eyelid aesthetics is performed alone or in combination with many other procedures such as face lift, eyebrow lifting, oil injection into wrinkles, Laser treatment, Botox application, and rejuvenation of the face is ensured.
The area around the eyes is the area where signs of aging and deterioration of the face are seen the earliest and attract the most attention. And the problems around the eyes make the person look older and tired, and reduce the vitality and dynamism in the eyes. Loosening, sagging and fold formations in the upper eyelid not only visually impair cosmetics, but also impair vision by creating an obstacle on vision. This is why our patients feel relief in their vision, especially after surgery. Although swelling and bagging in the lower eyelid and sagging skin are not very effective on vision, they cause eyelid contour disorders and tear problems in very advanced cases.
Eyelid aesthetic application is a very successful intervention that also relieves vision when applied in experienced hands. The surgeries are performed aesthetically, so it does not cause any problems such as leaving any scars. For this reason, the person who has had eyelid surgery does not have to worry about hiding it. The patient, who has recovered from the eyelid problem, feels the comfort of having a young, impressive eye area and gaze even after many years.
